It really is too much to ask a 1500-rated club player to solve the problems of the Ulvestad variation over the board for the first time-- particularly against me since I've studied this opening in excruciating depth. I don't blame myself for not playing my intuitive move, 14...h6! since it was not necessary to play in a sensational style given the rating difference and my strong position besides. Sometimes it's nice to win with no drama.
I normally don't like studying "theory" openings where the play is direct and sharp and suitable for very deep opening preparation. However, I feel justified if not forced to do so in the Two Knights "Fried Liver" because White is breaking opening principles by attacking with two pieces before developing.

That offered rook sac was beyond Crafty, must be at least a GM or Super-GM level sac, but it appears winning for Black. Very Spielmann-esque.

Linux, please upgrade your engine! Houdini/Stockfish/Toga are good free ones. Also this game is sort of shameful since i have so much canned opening knowledge and barely have to think for myself. There is only one line i'm afraid of in the Ulvestad where using engines i could not avoid White's clear advantage. But i happen to think 4.Ng5 is not a proper way for non-masters to play chess. At least Black's moves are philosophically justified since White has broken fundamental rules of the opening so White deserves to be punished. Unfortunately , just like real life some criminals are smart and live a life of crime (4.Ng5) and get away with it. Doesn't mean it should be encouraged! :)
